Every poll that rates and ranks the quality of life of an area takes into consideration the presence of the arts. With that in mind, the quality of life in Ada may be off the charts. Pottery… media arts… music… visual arts, just to name a few, are on the curriculum at ECU and the artistic influence has spilled out onto the streets of Ada. So how about a day trip to Ada’s emerging arts district?

Why is it that everytime you read some magazine article or watch some foodie show touting the "best" barbecue, for some reason they always omit Oklahoma? Well, we're here to tell you that Oklahoma is barbecue heaven, and Head Country Barbecue has racked up hundreds of local, state and regional championship titles, two national championships and a world championship to prove it!

You know how you run for the storm cellar during bad weather? At the National Weather Center they all run for the roof. It's the best seat in town for viewing approaching storms and anytime weather starts rolling in, the place is packed. Weather affects us all and if you'd like to get a great behind the scenes look at some of the latest gizmos that help to keep us all safe... your tour guides are waiting.
Okie Inventions and Lots of Other Great Things About Oklahoma
If you've lived in Oklahoma for a time, you most certainly have heard that the parking meter (Ca-ching!) and the shopping cart were invented here, so you know that there is a lot of Okie ingenuity going on. But our Dino Lalli likes to point out other features that make Oklahoma such a great place to live... and an outstanding place to visit.
This is a working horse ranch, but there is more to it than horseback riding and owner Becky Franks has added all the comfortable amenities at Rebel Hill Guest Ranch... then nature has provided a beautiful back drop... all that's lacking is you.
It all started in Shawnee, Oklahoma back in 1953 with a drive-in called the Top Hat. Over the last 50 years or so, it has evolved into 3,500 Sonic Drive-Ins in 41 states, with service at the speed of sound. We're sure if you asked TJ or Pete (the guys in the Sonic commercials) they would probably tell you that Sonic's success story could be attributed to them. Check them out on Sonic's website at "What is Sonic?"
So many of us think of Wiley Post as Will Rogers' friend and the man that died with Will in that Alaskan plane crash... but there was so much more to him than that. His creative genius changed the world of aviation with the invention of the altimeter and the first pressurized suit... guess you could call him an Okie with "the right stuff".

A 5-Star Bavarian Restaurant out here on the high plains of western Oklahoma? The owner likes to think of it as a place where traditional bratwurst and schnitzels join steaks… on a menu that is “Bavarian meets redneck”. Café Bahnhof is one of those eateries that is a destination unto itself, but be sure to make a reservation...
So after touring the American Banjo Museum in Bricktown, you've decided you'd like a banjo of your very own! Well, we happen to have found a world-class banjo maker just up the road in Tulsa. Rob Bishline started building a few banjos in his garage at his house and now he's creating banjos for famous pickers in the Dave Matthews band.
Are you up for a zigzagging 500-mile bicycle trek across Oklahoma? Our Shel Wagner discovers that this is not a journey for the undetermined, but a test of one's resolve. Join her (and 800 other riders) on this week-long adventure as she discovers that, like life, this is about the ride itself... not just your intended destination.
A wonderful collection of movie poster art is housed at this lovely theatre in Ponca City. Painted in eye-popping color, these works were created by local artists to lure folks in to watch the movie. Not considered "art" at the time, they are now considered treasures.

Get your fishing gear ready 'cause Ron is dreaming about fishin' again. He starts at the Upper Mountain Fork near Beavers Bend fishing for trout with Joe Hemphill from the Wildlife Department... then he moseys on down to Rush Lake in the Wichita Mountains Wildlife Refuge to bob on the lake in a tube and catch sunfish. His last stop is Lake Texoma to catch some stripers. Tough job, Ron...
We Oklahomans love our Will Rogers. And the admiration was mutual. He wore his home state like a badge of honor. We attach his name to everything possible…and you could build a travel itinerary across the state…just visiting locations that bear his name. In fact, Will's famous quote "I never met a man I didn't like" should probably be our state motto.

Angie Johnson, Owner & Manager 918-456-2070 17793 South Old Highway 62 Tahlequah, OK
From fried catfish and pan fried steaks to their corn and hominy, this restaurant covers the gamut of traditional Native American cuisine. The most popular menu item is the fry bread, actually not a "traditional" Native American food, but made from an old recipe Native Americans developed from cobbled-together food from U.S. government rations. Learning a people's heritage through their food is a delicious way to be educated!

Cheever's Cafe
Henri Bailey, General Manager www.cheeverscafe.com 405-525-7007 2409 N Hudson Oklahoma City, OK
Cheever’s has become one of Oklahoma City’s finer restaurants. Specializing in what it calls “contemporary comfort food,” Cheever’s brings a new twist to such Oklahoma staples as its Chicken-Fried Steak – a seasoned, hand-breaded top sirloin smothered in jalapeno cream gravy – and Molasses Roast Chicken Breast, served with creamy green tomato grits and seared whole green beans. And don’t miss the Yukon Gold-Bleu Cheese Potato Chips, homemade potato chips tossed in a creamy bleu cheese sauce.
Lunch Tuesday-Sunday, dinner Tuesday through Saturday, closed Monday
Founded in 1962 by the colorful Clifton “Click” Nelson – the original bar and grill was known as Click’s Alamo Club, and customers were admitted only after being checked through a see-through mirror – the restaurant now is run by Roger Smith, who has expanded the menu a little, though the eatery still concentrates on serving great steaks at affordable prices. You can also choose from sandwiches, burgers, chicken or seafood, but most diners head here for the hearty cuts of beef grilled to perfection or the towering, fluffy meringue pies.
From a humble little ex-convenience store, owner Nancy Fulton has built her own pastry empire, giving tourists an excellent reason besides nearby Turner Falls to get off the interstate and spend a little time in the scenic Arbuckle Mountains. Working from a time-honored family recipe, Fulton fills her light, flaky pastries with all manner of goodies ranging from chocolate, blackberry and peach to apple coconut and apricot, each of which is also available in a sugar-free variety. There’s even a bacon-egg-and-cheese fried pie for breakfast!
Hamburger Inn
(580) 782-5254 126 S. Pennsylvania Ave
Mangum, OK
Breakfast and lunch Monday through Saturday, dinner Friday and Saturday, closed Sunday
Squeezing in at the nine-stool counter and wolfing down an onion burger have been a Mangum tradition since the late 1920s when the Hamburger Inn opened. Since then, generations of locals have grown up on these burgers, now fortified with salsa from a top-secret recipe. In recent years, the establishment has grown from a small, concrete shack to three buildings, and the menu now features steaks, catfish, shrimp and prime rib on weekend nights.
This quaint little eatery covers all the barbecue bases – smoked ribs, brisket and chicken, and barbecued beef and pulled pork sandwiches – but it distinguishes itself with its famous homemade buns and its hush puppies. In fact, everything on the menu here has that home-cooked flavor. It’s located in the ghost town of Ingersoll, but there’s nothing spooky about a meal at the Smok-Shak.
Owner Debra Crabtree calls the fare she serves at the restaurant she runs with her son "typical American southern cooking," and the menu certainly reflects that description. Here, you'll find tasty steaks, burgers, fish, sandwiches and pork chops, all prepared in a down-home fashion. The house specialty is the Southern Belle Chicken - a boneless chicken breast marinated in a secret house dressing, then dipped in batter and fried, served with a special dipping sauce. It comes with a potato, bread and trip to the salad bar. For dessert, try a slice of homemade pie.
Do you want to get up close and personal with a buffalo? Well then, Captain Jack Parker is here to make the introductions. This labyrinth in a Tonkawa park can be a place to walk, or to read a book, or to just enjoy an autumn day- but then again, it actually so much more. The twists and turns can be thought of just like your life, right? A day in your life has twists and turns, so sometimes when you walk the labyrinth and think this is like a whole day of my life- you begin your life and a day goes one way and then another but then you always make it to the end and have experiences along the way.

Lago Vista means "lake view" in Italian, so this B&B is aptly named. Nestled between the Ouachita National Forest and Broken Bow Lake, this beautiful Tuscan style Italian villa is your perfect getaway. Each one of the 4 suites has a fireplace, Jacuzzi tub, private lake view balcony and a beautifully appointed bath... you'll feel so pampered, you'll never want to leave.
If it’s not already, the aptly-named Little Sahara State Park really should be on your “must see” list. Out here on Oklahoma's high plains, a desert was born from the Cimarron River’s current and shaped by the western Oklahoma wind… we’re talkin’ 18-hundred acres of sculpted sand… dunes 80 feet tall… that are continually shifting and changing. And you'll be pleased to know you can ride these dunes to your heart’s content... year-round.

This museum is named for "Oklahoma's First Tourist" Washington Irving, who toured the state in 1832 and wrote a book about his adventures here. It also celebrates the many characters and historic events of Payne County and the surrounding area.
The thought of ancient forests conjures up visions of the redwoods in California, but this perception is not necessarily the case. Oklahoma's ancient forest consists of gnarled limbed trees set in rocky soil, which date back to the time of Christopher Columbus. Ravaged by time, these trees reveal the existence of the crosstimbers that once occupied a large portion of Oklahoma.

#786 Locations: Bartlesville, Oklahoma City, Catoosa, Drumright
This Week: A Northeast Oklahoma tribute to woods, lakes and rocks, the history of a proud Oklahoma oil company, and a place where the oil boom still lives.
Established in 1925 as the country home of oilman Frank Phillips, it derives its name from the woods, lakes and rocks of the beautiful Osage Hills. The museum houses a world class collection of western art, artifacts and special exhibits.
This elegant Swiss chalet rests high on a ridge providing a spectacular view of the Verdigris River Valley and surrounding wooded hills of northeastern Oklahoma. The lodge offers over 8,000 square feet of space, including a fully functioning kitchen, spacious living areas with large rooms for dining or meetings, and eight beautiful bedrooms for nightly lodging or extended stays. A registered state and national historic site, the lodge is very private and secure, and a great location for weddings or just a romantic getaway.
Bartlesville is the town that Phillips Petroleum built, as is evident in this extraordinary museum. See why so many people were happy to work for Phillips, became part of a larger community, as well as an innovative corporate team.
405-382-1500 1800 W. Wrangler Blvd. Seminole, OK 74818
Mon-Thu, 10am-4pm, Sat 10am-2pm
This museum features oil field equipment from the 1920's and 1930's, including a large outdoor display and a 127 foot historical derrick along with other old oil derricks, a building with diorama of how the Seminole oil field looked in the late 1920's complete with towns and many other items relating to the oil boom days in Oklahoma.
Exhibits throughout the Oklahoma History Center give nod to our state’s deeply-rooted oil industry connection. Follow the rise of Oklahoma oil industry pioneers… whose discoveries had worldwide impact… which in turn led to a literal boom in philanthropy. Outside, the Devon oil patch displays four different drilling rigs… going all the way back to an early cable rig and showing the progress to newer technology... a testament to how Oklahoma was, and still is, fueled by the petroleum industry.
This magnificent building was constructed in Guthrie when it was still the capitol. Steeped in Oklahoma, United States, and world history, the structure and it's furnishings will captivate your imagination just as it has those who have filmed movies here.
A wonderful collection of movie poster art is housed at this lovely theatre in Ponca City. Painted in eye-popping color, these works were created by local artists to lure folks in to watch the movie. Not considered "art" at the time, they are now considered treasures.
For those of you who fantasize about being a cowboy, this is the place for you! A western town awaits you just outside of Guthrie. So come dress up like Wyatt Earp and play the part for the weekend.
