Museum of the Red River - Idabel

The Museum of the Red River features ethnographic art from North, Central, and South America, with comparative materials from Africa, East Asia, and the South Pacific. Its collections are particularly strong in regional archaeological materials, Plains Indian garments, Southwestern Pueblo ceramics, and Precolumbian Middle and South American artifacts. Rotating exhibits are drawn from the museum's permanent collection of over 18,000 objects, while educational programs introduce visitors to the world of America's native cultures and illustrate the remarkable achievements of both ancient and modern peoples. The museum also displays the reconstructed skeleton of a prehistoric dinosaur, Acrocanthosaurus atokensis, discovered in McCurtain County 12 miles from the museum.
